The yearly JSPS-Leading House Asia call programme continues to exist as before.

The Leading House ETH Zurich and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) jointly fund the exchange of early career scientists between Japan and Switzerland. This Special 2023 Call for Exchange Grants Japan is a one-time-only, special call whereby Japan-based doctoral students and early-career postdoctoral students directly apply to the Leading House Asia.

The instrument funds research stays of 3–6 months in Switzerland. The research stay must be stand-alone, not incorporated into other research stay programmes etc.

The Leading House Asia offers no matchmaking between Japan-based doctoral students/early-career postdoctoral students and potential Swiss hosts.

Eligibility

Doctoral students and early-career postdoctoral researchers (max. 2-3 years into postdoctoral programme) from Japanese universities, universities of applied sciences, public research institutes are invited to apply. Priority will be given to applicants based in Japan. The call is open to all disciplines including social sciences and humanities.

Funding

Grants will cover travel costs and a monthly living allowance for a research stay at a Swiss university or research laboratory.

Application Process

The application must be submitted through our online application form with the following attachments in one single pdf document (English).

The application shall include:

  • Research plan
  • CV of the applicant (Japan-based scholar)
  • Supporting letter from the Japan-based supervisor
  • Acceptance letter from the Switzerland-based host
  • Any other supporting document(s)

Applications that do not follow the instructions above will be dismissed.
