Launching a new brand in a new market is a challenging but rewarding experience. As an intern at Syngenta, I had the opportunity to do just that. My tasks in this context included the development and implementation of the digital marketing strategy, promotional activities, and the use of digital channels to increase the brand presence. This also entailed the creation of a comprehensive marketing communications plan for the launch of the new Soniva brand across South-East Asia.

One of my most challenging tasks was to create visual aids and documents for the entry of Soniva. I had to learn a lot about the SEA market and culture to tailor my presentation to the audience. These presentations were crucial for communicating the brand concept and helped with the successful market launch. In the end, my presentations were well-received and helped to generate interest in the new brand.

A highlight of my internship was organising the starting event in Khon Kaen, where we offered the opportunity to present the Soniva. This event brought together customers, partners and other stakeholders.

Overall, my main responsibilities during the internship met my expectations. I was able to deepen my knowledge in the areas of market entry as well as marketing and contribute to the successful launch of Soniva in SEA.

“This will be invaluable in my future career.”

My internship at Syngenta allowed me to gain valuable insights into the workings of a major international corporation. This was a unique opportunity to understand the operations, processes and structures of a global company.

I was able to learn first-hand the importance of cultural differences within an international working environment. One of the most important things I learned about Thai culture is the importance of respect. Thais are very respectful of their elders and superiors, and it is important to be mindful of this in both your professional and personal interactions. For example, when I first started my internship, I would always greet my colleagues with a wai, which is a traditional Thai gesture of respect. It was essential to broaden my horizons to foster a pleasant atmosphere for everyone. This experience helped me to sharpen my intercultural sensitivity and to better understand the diversity of the working world. Over the 3 months, I had the privilege to work with colleagues from Thailand, China, Singapore, India, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, France and the Netherlands. The opportunity to work in such a diverse environment was challenging but at the same time enormously educational and enriching.

The internship required a high level of adaptability to new situations, ways of working and people. This will be invaluable in my future career.
I hope to be able to draw on the international experience I gained in my International Business Management studies in the future. Be it in terms of cooperation with my many multinational peers or subject-specific in cultural management and communication. In addition, I loved the visit to the Swiss Embassy. It offered an insight into international relations between Thailand and Switzerland and how they are being optimised.

Overall, my internship at Syngenta has enriched my professional, personal and academic development in many ways and provided me with valuable skills and experiences that will have a positive impact on my future.
